ADULT EDUCATION ALIGNMENT WITH HIGHER EDUCATION REPORT

Background

In the spring of 2019, members of the high school equivalency team commenced a project which included working with Massachusetts community colleges to implement high school equivalency college ready scores as a multiple measure for academic placement. The information on this project and the report can be found at https://www.doe.mass.edu/hse/hse-college.html . Additionally, as part of this project, the participants engaged in a discussion of the current alignment between the Massachusetts Adult Education system and the higher education community colleges.

The college ready multiple measures recommendation and report were completed in June of 2020 and it was determined that further discussions with the field need to take place regarding system alignment. It was recommended that ACLS convene a series of focus groups starting in the fall of 2020 to elicit feedback from the field regarding identifying promising practices for system alignment and soliciting recommendations for its improvement.
